Velvet drapes have a very nice and distinct look to them compared to other types of materials. Velvet is great to look at and gives a home a nice Victorian style image. If you match it up with hard wood floors you will have a look that makes your home comfortable and stylish at the same time. Velvet drapes are quite heavy though so make sure you keep this in mind while you are searching for the right anchors and curtain rods to securely hold them in place.

If you are going to purchase velvet drapes though you need to go all out. This means you need to be willing to make the investment for high quality drapes or pass this fabric over for something else all together. Discount velvet drapes will be of poor quality and it will show. The sunlight won’t reflect through it like it should and it could have a very dark effect on a room.

However, when you invest in quality velvet drapes the sunlight will reflect like it should. The result will be beautiful velvet drapes that remind people of royalty. They will give your room a very close and comfortable feeling that is inviting to everyone that steps inside of it. Velvet drapes are very full too so they can make the space you have appear to be bigger and more open.

Some people don’t like the fact that velvet drapes are all one color though. They feel it may be too much. You can easily offset it though by adding some delicate trimmings. Get white lace ties for the sides or a nice sheath that covers the top in a different color. These subtle changes will enhance the beauty of the velvet drapes you hang up.

Velvet drapes are very elegant and they will never go out of style. If you are looking for easy and cost effective ways to upgrade your home this is one of them. The impression that people will have of your home will greatly improve once they see your velvet drapes. You likely won’t realize until you hang them up just how dramatic of a change they will have on any room.

Drapes are often in place to add color and décor to a room in a home. They also offer privacy so that others can’t see what is going on behind them. Yet there is also another benefit to some type of drapes. They are thermal and so they help to keep a home warm. This is a very good idea if you have drafty windows yet not enough money to replace them just yet.

Even if your home is well insulated you may discover that thermal drapes provide you with a way to save energy. Not only will you be doing your part to cut back on wasting natural resources, you will save money. The amount of money you save on heating costs will more than pay for your thermal drapes in no time at all. Many individuals only display thermal drapes during the colder times of the year.

You do need to prepare your walls and curtain rods for the weight of thermal drapes though. They are much heavier than most regular types of drapes and you don’t want your curtain rods to bend and be pulled out of the wall due to the additional weight. You can simply add wall anchors though and even change your curtain rods for a very low price. It shouldn’t take you more than an hour to do all of this and to hang the thermal curtains for any room in your home.

Some people have the impression that hanging thermal drapes in their home though will look like huge blankets covering them. This isn’t the case of it all as though as you will soon see when you start looking and the many designs out there. Thermal drapes often look so much like regular ones that nobody will really be able to tell the difference unless you tell them.

Thermal drapes often cost more than other types of drapes though due to the insulation they offer. However, this isn’t going to be an expense that is too extravagant for you to cover. It also is going to be well worth it when you feel more comfortable in your home while saving money on heating costs.

Silk Drapes

If you want to add some class to any room in your home, consider hanging silk drapes in there. They come in many different colors so you should be able to find what will accent the rest of the décor you have in place. Some people hang silk drapes in the spring and summer months when it is warmer. They replace them with something heavier for the fall and the winter. Other people keep their silk drapes in place all year long.

Silk drapes can wrinkle easy though so you need to be prepared for it. Generally you can get them wrinkles out with a steam iron or even by placing a humidifier in the room for a couple of hours. If the air is dry your silk drapes may not hang as they should due to static. You can also turn on a humidifier to help with this as well. Be careful not to get anything on them as they can easily stain.

Silk drapes are very light so you don’t need to worry about intense hardware in place to hang them up. A couple of standard curtain rods in place should do the trick. My retailers also sell decorative curtain rods so you can make your silk drapes look classier than ever. It all depends on the overall image you want a particular room in your home to have.

You will likely find silk drapes to be more expensive than many other types of materials though. Still, you don’t want to pass up the chance to have a well decorated home. Look for sales on silk drapes and take advantage of them. You should have the measurements for the windows in your home in your purse or wallet. This way you will know if they will work when you do see them on sale.

Most silk drapes out there are very well made so you won’t have to worry about them wearing out. In fact, they should last until you decide you want to change them by adding something else. Of course many individuals simply decide they don’t ever want to get rid of their silk drapes. If they are going to replace them it will be with another set.

Drapes are window coverings that serve many different purposes. For those inside of the home they offer some security as well as privacy from the outside world. Even those that live on upper levels may worry about peeping toms with binoculars. Window drapes also allow a person to control the amount of sunlight that enters their room. Shopping for window drapes can be very exciting as there are so many choices.

The dimensions of the windows you wish to cover will have to be taken into consideration though. You need the window drapes to be a good fit for them. You also need to think about the look you want. You may not realize it but the materials and the colors you choose for a room in your home can change the overall effect of how it looks.

If you aren’t sure what you should buy you can consult with a specialist. They can come into your home to look at the windows you have. They can also bring in samples so you can experiment with how a particular style of window drape would look for you. There is no obligation for such a free consultation so you should certainly take advantage of such efforts. Of course they will hope you do decide to buy your window drapes from them afterwards.

Some people like to make their own window drapes though. They have the time and the skills to do a lovely job. They take pride in the work they have done and the way it reflects the image of their home. They are also able to design exactly what they want and not pay a fortune for it either.

Take your time deciding what you want in the way of window drapes. There are so many materials you can use that it can be a long process. Some people change their drapes on the windows several times a year. They may do so based on the season of the year or just when they decide they want a change. Others have had the same window drapes in place for years but they still find them to be quite lovely.

Drapes are a type of window covering and many people commonly refer to them as curtains. Many people place them over their windows to offer some privacy. They can also control the amount of sunlight that they bring in at a given time. Some people like to sleep in so they have heavy drapes that cover the sunlight in the mornings. Others love to wake up to the sun shining in as they start their day so they go with something sheer.

You can also layer drapes for a beautiful look that will serve you well. For example you can have a sheer panel behind heavier drapes. You can open the heavy drapes and tie them on the side when you want to let the sun come in. You can also leave them in place when you want it to be darker or when you want some privacy.

Drapes are made from various types of materials including silk, velvet, and cotton. The look you want will often help you to determine the fabric you choose for your drapes. You may not realize how much of an impact they can have on any room in your home. If you are trying to liven things up go with some colorful drapes but if you want to tone it down a bit go with some Earth tones.

Windows aren’t all the same size or shape so you will have to look around to find drapes that fit. You want to measure your windows in order to get the right ones. Most people want them to be longer and wider than the window panes so you do have some wiggle room here. You can also custom order drapes to fit windows if you are having trouble finding the size you need.

Many people choose to buy materials and make their own drapes though. They find they can have fun with the various patterns and they don’t have to spend a great deal of money to get them. You do want to make sure you hang the drapes securely with rods that are heavy enough to hold them. The overall weight of your fabric will determine what you need to use to secure them in place.
